June Round-Up

 Sun Jul 12 2009, 09:22pm, 0 comments
Maybe it was the heat, or maybe everyone is still recovering from marathon fever, but UKNR had an uncharacteristically low number of Personal Bests in June. One distance did strike a chord with club members though with 3 debuts and 3 PBs over 10 miles, including a new club record of 55:19 set by Stephen Price.

The Ridgeway Relay saw 10 UKnetrunners taking to the trails for the second year running, successfully completing the 90 mile route in 13:24:27, 45 minutes quicker than last year. Using an Egg & Spoon for a baton, Matt Leatham, Jeannie Hamers, Steve Gunn, Brigitte Groves, Pearce Phillips, Mark Willcocks, Colin Hewes, Bill Preston, David Kindred & Matt Dunn each took their turn to navigate the Ridgeway. A big thank you to David for all his work in organising the team and to all those that ran for representing the club so well.

Matt Dunn is back on top of the Grand Prix holding a small lead over Mike Pullon. However, with Matt currently recovering from injury, will this give Mike the advantage in July!

10m: Pete Stockdale (1:01:27), Nick Dunk (1:27:56), Zoe Stockdale (1:36:26)

Achievements
Ridgeway Relay: 10 runners completing the Ridgeway for the second consecutive year.
Mark willcocks: Competed in the Royal Navy Triathlon Championships
Shaun Bonner: Ran the tough Sea Bank Marathon only a week after the Edinburgh Marathon, finishing 5 minutes quicker than at the same event last year
Stephen Price: Finished 2nd in the Bourton Hilly Half Marathon and set 3 PBs.

Finally, apologies for the delay in writing the June round-up, I've had a busy couple of weeks. We're a bit too far in July for me to include some of the races coming up this month, but please check the event calendar to see if anyone else from the club is racing near you.
