There were 23 of you getting your parkrun fix this week bringing the total to 37 runners as we pass the half way mark for the June handicap.
While we may not quite have had the heat and humidity of Manaus it was a bit of a warm one in most parts of the country, despite this 3 new 5k PBs were set by Simon Hibbert, Paul Wallace & Kevin Baker.
Paul Wallace continues to lead the overall handicap, but by a lot less than last week, due partly to Paul allowing a “re-calibration” of his handicap and also by a very good performance by Simon Hibbert at Great Cornard parkrun in sunny Suffolk. Behind them it is a titanically tight tussle for the last podium place with Anthony Myles, Ayshea King & Akgun Ozsoy only separated by a couple of seconds.
Three runners have kept up their quest to visit a different parkrun each week, with Shaun Bonner & Anthony Myles touring the east Midlands and the east coast and Will Shippin going wherever his motorbike takes him.
The age graded competition is really competitive with 5k’ers performances seeming to improve with age. The first three all having bettered a WAVA of 75% and top of the heap is Andy Lane who is nudging the 80% mark followed closely by Christian Poulton and Colin Hewes. Andy has improved week-on-week so maybe there is yet more to come?
As we are now at week 3 – those runners who have competed every week are now ranked in terms of their 3 best time (the so-called consistency category). Shaun Bonner, Samantha Blease & Richard Harris top the rankings at the moment, but I think we have to expect changes here in the next weeks as more runners complete 3 events.
