How did you first get into running?
I got into running about 7 years ago after stopping smoking and putting on 2 stone in 6 months...needed to do something about it and there was a 10km cancer run in 4 months time so I entered. God was that a shock to the system, only just made it round in a time of about 75mins but after about a week in knew I had the bug...more training needed.
What was your first race?
My first proper race with what I thought was proper training came about 6 months after my cancer run. It was the rushcliffe park 10km march 2008. It was a bitter cold day and I ran a time of around 55mins...super happy with that, but the 10km felt like 10 miles...
How does it feel to be named UKnetrunner of the Year?
Winning the UKnetrunner of the year was the highlight of my running life so far.. love this club and the people that follow it. My biggest achievement is being voted runner of the year, to know that your fellow runners think so much of you and are impressed by what you have done for yourself and others.
Do you have a training tip for other runners?
The only training tip I have for other runners is ..if you dont enjoy it, dont do it...running when you are not up for it has a negative effect on your training. Iron tablets are my secret....with them great without crap.
What are your targets for 2014
Aims for this year are Eyam half marathon, second toughest in the country..not a race just to enjoy.
What would you like to say to your fellow club mates?
Thank you to everyone who has help me over the last 7 years and to the best running club out there....
